Rounder Records is established in Somerville.

Founded by graduate students Ken Irwin, Marian Leighton Levy, and Bill Nowlin, it is located initially in their apartment in Somerville. The music label becomes an important promoter of “roots music” and release nearly 4,000 albums, including more than 40 Grammy award winners It moves to Burlington in 2007, is purchased by Concord Music Group in 2010, and moves to Nashville in 2014.
